When posting the article from Speigel Online yesterday about the vegetarian driver in Germany who hit a truckload of pigs, I couldn't help but notice the article's related stories, which all shared the theme of daring animal escapes.
From May of this year, there is a story about a kangaroo who escaped from a German zoo and went on a 15-day adventure before being lured back with peanut butter (that would likely work on me as well.) Then, there is another from March about a runaway sheep, who, being pursued by police in Northern Germany, reached speeds over 45 kilometers per hour before leaping over a police car.
The best, however, is the one about the lobsters. In October 2007, a gang of lobsters in an Asian supermarket broke out of their poorly secured crates to make their way across the grocery store floor and slip out a door that was left open. The police were alerted when people notice dozens of lobsters scurrying down the street. Proved to be a smart move on the lobsters' part, though: They landed themselves in an animal home, which is sure to be a more comfortable fate than a stockpot.
